School Beats - This composition, created on Ableton Live, utilizes uniquely crafted drum kits made from sound clips of classroom noises. Including eraser claps, rubber band plucks, and percussion sounds made from various plastic toys, the piece displays the great variety of musical possibilities from even limited recordings. Once the drum kits were created on Ableton Live, the work was recorded on Ableton Push, and then further mixed to perfection. Tracks were compressed, EQ-ed , and adjusted in both volume and direction. The resulting piece can be heard below.
Atmospheres-This composition, also created on Ableton Live, utilizes D minor pentatonic harmonies and melodies to combine a calm, soothing soundtrack with the soft, creative, and awe-inspiring images of deep space. Once the piece was recorded on Ableton Push with the pads, it was then further mixed and mastered to perfection in the Arrange View of Ableton Live. The relaxing soundtrack is composed of the 'Cosmos Soundscape,' 'Sandman,' and other continuous, evolving sounds and chords. Tracks were compressed, EQ-ed, and adjusted in both volume and direction. The resulting piece can be heard below.
Cycles - This composition, also created, mixed, recorded, and mastered on Ableton Live, utilizes primarily A minor pentatonic to combine harmonies, melodies, a drum beat, bass, and an arpeggio for a melodic synth-y masterpiece. Once each track was recorded on Ableton Push with pads, then compressed, EQ-ed, and adjusted in attack, release, knee, etc., the Arrange view allowed for the song to be constructed in full. After recording and assembling, the work was complete. The resulting piece can be heard below.
Squares - This composition, comprised of originally created loops in ProTools, is composed of various beats and sounds from Xpand and Boom. Once developing the hip hop and electric beats, and layering those with electric guitar sounds and shaker patterns, I knew my composition had some potential as a work of trance music. Next, I uniformly situated the series of loops to add complexity over the progression of the song. With each new beat or sound addition, the music became more interesting. And as trance music often does, the beats and sounds evolve over time, dropping out and adding in. The resulting piece can be heard below.
